In 2023, Samsung will no longer be the only game in town if you want a foldable phone.

Oppo And Honor Look To End Samsung's Monopoly On The Foldable Phone Scene

The foldable phone scene is such an odd beast right now. In almost every corner of the globe, Samsung is just about the only game in town if you want a foldable phone. In one gigantic country-China-the foldable scene is hotly contested, with nearly a dozen other alternatives to Samsung's foldables. As has been the case with almost every Chinese foldable since 2021, they're sleeker, and with an arguably superior crease-less display than Samsung's best foldable. Even if these foldables don't sell well, their mere existence on store shelves means, by definition, Samsung's monopoly on the global foldable industry should end. Samsung's Fold 4 still has some advantages, such as official water resistance rating and a higher peak screen brightness, but otherwise, there's absolutely no denying that Oppo and Honor's foldable screens look better, simply by virtue of it not showing a deep crease at off-angles. I'm not saying these foldables will overtake Samsung's foldable in sales anytime soon, but the mere existence of these devices, selling in countries outside of China, is going to make Samsung take notice.
