Aussie diver Rousseau wins historic world champs gold to deny China clean sweep

Australian diver Cassiel Rousseau has claimed gold at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka after triumphing in the men's 10-metre platform final. It is Australia's first victory in the event in world championships history, while it denied China a clean sweep of the diving gold medals in Fukuoka after it won the opening 12 events on the program. Ranked ninth after his first dive, 22-year-old Rousseau climbed the standings before taking the lead with his fifth effort. He then scored 98.05 with his sixth and final dive to clinch gold. The Commonwealth Games champion finished on 520.85 points, with Chinese pair Lian Junjie and Yang Hao taking the silver and bronze medals respectively. "There is no big secret to my success today," Rousseau said after the final. "It all hangs on who can maintain their position at top of the heap and produce the six most consistent dives on that given day where the final takes place."
