Ex-Goldman Chief John Thornton Joins Board Of China Computer Maker Lenovo

Long-time China expert John Thornton has joined the board of directors of Chinese computer and smartphone maker Lenovo amid strained between ties between Washington and Beijing, along with slowing growth in China's economy, the world's second largest. Thornton, 69, has been chairman of Barrick Gold Corp. since April 2014 and of PineBridge Investments, a global asset manager, since December 2014. He has also been a director at Ford Motor since March 1996, according to a Lenovo announcement. Lenovo's shares lost 4.95% after the announcement. 85 today, a near nine-month low amid continuing concerns about China's economic growth outlook and a real estate glut. Thornton is a professor and director of the Global Leadership Program and an advisory board member of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University as well as an advisory board member of Tsinghua University's School of Public Policy and Management. Thornton is chairman emeritus of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D. C., co-chairman of the Asia Society, and a trustee, advisory board member and member of, China Investment Corporation, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, McKinsey Advisory Council, Schwarzman Scholars, and the African Leadership Academy, Lenovo noted.
