Guyuan City is the sub-central city of Ningxia Province. It is located in the center of the triangle formed by the three provincial capital cities of Xi'an, Lanzhou and Yinchuan. It is one of the five prefecture-level cities in Ningxia and the only city not along the Yellow River. It is one of China's four major potato planting bases and a distribution center for northwest specialty agricultural products. It is a famous red tourist city and one of the top ten potential cities in the Long March. Built in 114 BC, it was a must-pass for the Silk Road and one of the nine important towns in the Ming Dynasty.
